My personal search for digestive health was the catalyst for my career as a dietitian. During the early years of my journey I only had a glimpse of the“bigger picture” of just how crucial a healthy digestive tract is for overall health. Microbiome is becoming a buzzword and the popularity of this topic is well deserved. Without a healthy “gut” environment we are more vulnerable to dysfunction and disease. Many people correlate common symptoms such as gas, bloating, and constipation with “belly troubles” but don’t realize that mood disorders, fatigue, skin rashes, and even seasonal allergies can all be related to a compromised digestive tract. This article outlines a few practical ways to start working toward optimal gut health so that you can start to feel your best!
