Meet Belly Blissful Founder Cori Cohen, RDN
As a teenager growing up in Long Island I began to experience frequent digestive issues. My friends and family would often joke about me, always on the scrawny side, having a pronounced pot belly after eating a meal. I laughed along with them even though the bloat and discomfort significantly impacted my social life and lead to anxiety and bouts of depression. A certain degree of fear and stress started to surround one of my favorite pastimes…eating! I spent many years seeing different medical professionals to “figure out” the source of my gastrointestinal woes.
I was diagnosed with IBS in college and given a short list of foods to avoid. I was told time and time again that what I ate didn’t really matter that much. I loved my cereal and sweets (and let’s be honest alcohol and pizza were not vices I was willing to forfeit as a college student) so I shrugged it off and dealt with the consequences. It took years of not feeling well, and repeatedly canceling plans with friends because of physical discomfort, to take ownership of my own health and wellbeing. I began to research nutrition for IBS and experiment with my own diet. This lead me to truly grasp the undeniable connection between what I chose to put inside of my body and how I felt (both physically and mentally!)
Fast forward to about 10 years ago where I found myself sitting behind a desk in midtown Manhattan speaking with manufacturers overseas about the packaging for our newest designer eyewear. It took time for me to realize that I was more interested in helping people invest in their inner health than decorate their outsides. I still love fashion, and never shun a great pair of denim, but my true passion is to help others feel better and lead healthier lives. I have spent the past 5 years working as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in a fascinating field that is always evolving.
I have counseled a large and diverse population of individuals as the registered dietitian for an integrative wellness center in California, nutrition program coordinator of a luxury health club in Westchester NY, and clinical dietitian in both acute care and long term care facilities on Long Island. I have leads seminars and workshops on a variety of health and nutrition related topics and have delivered on-site corporate wellness solutions to many large accounts including AllianceBernstein, Time Warner, and Conde Nast as a representative of Wellness Concepts.
When I can make a positive difference in the way somebody feels it is so special and gratifying.
